Yes, it works to power on the display initially after unboxing or after factory resetting the player. Currently the remote only works to control functions like adjusting volume, turning the screen on, etc., in LG monitor mode, not BrightSign mode. Future software releases will add remote control functionality in BrightSign mode as well.
