BrightSign Media Server
This section describes the Media Server application as it applies to XTx44, XTx43, 4Kx42, XDx34, XDx33 and XDx32 players running BOS versions 6.0.x and later. Most BrightSign models can stream files on local storage to other sources on the local network, but the XTx45, XTx44, XTx43, 4Kx42, XDx34, XDx33 and XDx32 are the only models that support encoding and transcoding of multimedia sources.
These features are not regularly tested and the behavior on current OS versions is not guaranteed.
The Media StreamerMedia Streamer page outlines how to perform unicast and multicast streaming using the roMediaStreamer object, which lets a player stream video to another BrightSign player or compatible network device.
XTx44, XTx43, 4Kx42, XDx34, XDx33 and XDx32 players can also act as true Media Servers, which wait for requests from clients and then stream the requested content. The Media ServerMedia Server page outlines how to use the roMediaServer object to deploy a player as a media server. The Media Server Performance page discusses performance estimates and limitations of the Media Server.
The Media Streamer (roMediaStreamer) does unicast and multicast, while the Media Server (roMediaServer) serves each client on request. Currently, all media streaming and serving applications are handled using BrightScript.
XTx44, XTx43, 4Kx42, and XDx33 models can stream 4K content from a file or an incoming stream, but they cannot encode or transcode 4K content.
Supported streaming protocols: UDP, RTP, and RTSP streaming Supported streaming codecs: MPEG-TS (MPEG-2 or H.264 Transport Streams). XT5 encodes H.265 in MPEG-TS.
