This page / section pertains to BrightSign Author, our latest app for authoring and managing content and players. For the legacy BrightAuthor Classic app, refer to our [Legacy Docs](docId\:i5zF53DX56wdWDFHlRot1).
:::

A Local Web Server (LWS) allows you to access and modify Variables. This page describes how to use the LWS in BrightSign Author. If your player is used with a partner CMS or not configured for use with BrightSign Author publishing, these functions may not be available or may be relocated to a different port.

## Access the LWS

You can access the LWS using the BrightSign app or a web browser. The LWS is enabled when the player is set up for **Local Network** during [Setup](docId\:XNnXywMV09iEgZIIt7RWA)  (**Admin > Setup**). The LWS may also be enabled or disabled when the **Publishing Mode** is set to anything but **Local Network**.

To find the LWS on a web browser, enter the IP address of the player at port 8008 (for example, “10.0.1.199:8008”). You can find the player IP address in the [Remote Diagnostic Web Server](docId:6zVEBQJF7-9aGT11u3eqw), or power up your player after removing the storage and the IP will be shown on the display screen.

This will bring you to the Player Web Page, which allows you to update Variables over the local network.
