Multiple App Versions
This page / section pertains to BrightAuthor Classic, our legacy app. BrightSign Author is our latest app for managing content and players.
Development of BrightAuthor Classic has largely ceased and the app will eventually be deprecated and replaced with BrightSign Author.
To install multiple versions of BrightAuthor Classic on your computer, follow the instructions below.
Note that although the documentation refers to BrightAuthor as BrightAuthor Classic, the actual product name is BrightAuthor. The instructions below use the term BrightAuthor.
- After installing the first version, copy the BrightAuthor folder from the default directory to any folder on your computer (e.g., the desktop) and rename it to match the BrightAuthor version (for example "3.8.0.27").
- BrightAuthor config files in Windows 7 are in C:\Program Files (x86)\BrightSign\BrightAuthor
- Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and uninstall BrightAuthor.
- Install a different BrightAuthor version in the same location (C:\Program Files (x86)\BrightSign\BrightAuthor). You can repeat this process indefinitely and install as many BrightAuthor versions as needed.
Example
The image below shows a custom "BA" folder with numerous sub-folders that contain different BrightAuthor versions.

When you open one of these sub-folders, you will see files like the image below. Double-click the BrightAuthor.exe file to launch the selected BrightAuthor version.
