Getting Started
This page / section pertains to BrightAuthor Classic, our legacy app. BrightSign Author is our latest app for managing content and players.
Development of BrightAuthor Classic has largely ceased and the app will eventually be deprecated and replaced with BrightSign Author.
If you're new to BrightAuthor Classic, follow the below steps to get started. You can also view this this tutorial video to get an overview of the app.
Step 1: Install
Download the latest software and install it on your PC:
- Locate the model series of your player.
- Click to download the current official release. To download a beta release (if there currently is one), click the More Downloads link and select the appropriate Beta Release.
- Unzip the contents of the downloaded .zip file.
- Double-click the setup .exe file to begin the installation.
- Follow the onscreen instructions.
BrightAuthor Classic requires the latest version of Microsoft .Net Framework. If this component is not already on your PC, BrightAuthor Classic installs it during the installation. However, if Microsoft .Net Framework needs to be installed, the installation may take up to 45 minutes to complete and you may need to restart your PC to complete the installation process.
Step 2: Launch
- Double-click the BrightAuthor Classic icon on your desktop.
- (Optional) If prompted, sign in to BrightSign Network (BSN). See the BrightSign Network publishing instructionsBrightSign Network publishing instructions for more details.
Step 3: Set up your BrightSign player
- Depending on how you want to publish your presentations, create the appropriate setup filesappropriate setup files for your BrightSign player.
- Insert an SD card or USB flash drive containing the setup files into the player.
- Connect your player to a display and power it on.

Presentations can include video, audio, image, and HTML files. See the following links to learn more about supported content types:
Step 5: Create your Presentations
Now you’re ready to start creating presentations. To get started, create a simple full-screen presentationsimple full-screen presentation. You can then go on to create more complex multi-zonemulti-zone and interactiveinteractive presentations.
Step 6: Publish your Presentations
After creating presentations, use one of the publishing optionspublishing options to deliver them to your BrightSign players.
