This page / section pertains to **BrightAuthor Classic**, our legacy app. **BrightSign Author **is our latest app for managing content and players.

Development of BrightAuthor Classic has largely ceased and the app will eventually be deprecated and replaced with BrightSign Author.
:::

As of BrightAuthor Classic version 3.7.0.12, you can stream unicast and multicast audio from a remote source to BrightSign players using the **Audio Stream** state.

- **State Name**: Specify a unique name for the stream state.
- **URL for video stream**: Enter a valid URL for the stream. The URL can also include a number of optional parameters:
- Specify a [User Variable](docId:97ugz4dVQlqzVJ1EGJ_Y4) to replace all or part of the URL. To include the Value of the variable in the URL, enter the variable Name between two sets of dollar signs (e.g. "http\://www\.example.com/streams/$$my\\\_URLvar$$").
- Append the "?latency=\[value\_in\_ms]" parameter to modify the default latency (see [this How-to...](docId:0Tioy9PJdGG4G25yGBnib) for more details).
- Append the "?buffersize=\[size\_in\_bytes]" parameter to modify the default streaming buffer size (see [this How-to...](docId:0Tioy9PJdGG4G25yGBnib) for more details).
- **Time to play**: Specify the duration (in seconds) that the stream will be played. This option is only available in non-interactive presentations. To customize the duration of a stream in an interactive presentation, use a [Timeout](docId\:UnTTDBsTwdsXeogHb2qF6) or [Media End](docId:2syvvhjxfc9-ac5Cdt9n_) event.

# Supported Audio Streaming Protocols

- **Bitrates**: Any supported by the codec
- **Sample Rates**: 32kHz, 44.1kHz, 48kHz

:::hint{type="info"}
If you are running into audio quality issues as a result of poor network performance, you can try [increasing the size of the streaming buffer](docId:0Tioy9PJdGG4G25yGBnib) on the player.
